Pair of Neoclassical Vases in Bronze and Gilded Bronze, Late 19th/Early 20th Century
Admirable examples of French neoclassicism, this pair of vases acts almost as a trompe-l’oeil at the time of its creation. While the fashion is for patinated porcelain, these vases are surprising with their weight because their body is not made of hard paste, but of bronze! Encased in gilded bronze frames with ram’s heads, the neo-classical taste and the memory of the Louis XVI style certainly continued brilliantly at the turn of the 20th century.
Under the base of each vase, the company brand “Thiébaut Frères, Fumière et Gavignot successors” refers to a Parisian company created in 1898 and active until 1905 before being taken over by Charles Fumière alone under the name ” Thiébaut Frères (Fumière et Cie successor)”. Our pair of vases is in perfect condition.
