Large Solid Silver Candlestick, 19th Century

Four lights raised on volutes made of delicate windings of chiseled acanthus leaves form a ring around the central shaft crowned with a fifth light. Chiseled bobèches in the shape of leaves and binets leaning on large gadrooned cushions further enrich the vocabulary of this large candlestick. Like a bouquet, scrolls and lights escape from a vase carried with ease by an oriental caryatid, all in veils and precious fabrics and richly adorned with jewels. The stepped foot is still soft in its supple forms and masks adorn the feet. Work in solid silver and in perfect condition in the most perfect eclectic style, this candlestick handles both the codes of the second half of the 19th century as well as that of Orientalism. A solid silver hallmark attests to the quality of the metal.
