Les flacons auraient ainsi \u00e9t\u00e9 baptis\u00e9s \u00ab\u00a0lacrymatoire\u00a0\u00bb du nom de leur contenu, les larmes (\u00ab\u00a0lacrima\u00a0\u00bb). Si l\u2019histoire est belle, rien ne l\u2019atteste et de nombreuses \u00e9tudes chimiques sur les r\u00e9sidus contenus dans ces fioles semblent davantage indiquer que ces derniers contenaient des huiles parfum\u00e9es ou des onguents.
