His studies, which he began in Marseille, quickly led him to move to Paris and in 1906, then aged 25, he made his debut at the Salon des Indépendants where he presented a bust of Verlaine. From 1913, he presented, at the Salon d’Automne and in several galleries, an enriched production of paintings which earned him a certain success. In 1931, he was named Chevalier in the National Order of the Legion of Honor. Closely linked to Marseille, its port activity and the federation of maritime unions, he became a painter for the Navy Department in 1936 and was entrusted with part of the paintings of the prestigious liner Normandy.

His older brother, Louis-Mathieu Verdilhan (1875 – 1928), led a career parallel to that of André, preceding him both at the Salon des Indépendants and at the Salon d’Automne. If his notoriety, before the 1930s, was less than that of his younger brother, Louis-Mathieu Verdilhan nonetheless remained a talented artist. The Verdilhan brothers will experience unanimous recognition in Provence and in particular in Marseille where the Regards de Provence Foundation organized in 2007 a retrospective comparing the artistic career of the two brothers and their love for the ports of Marseille, Toulon, the seascapes as well than the landscapes of Provence.

Delivery price in France : 55€.

Delivery price in Europe : 95€.

Delivery price for other destinations: 125€.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Painting signed by the official French Navy artist André Verdilhan.
