The windings in the style of the roofs of Asian pagodas or the perforated elements of geometric patterns are in the second half of the 19th century a very appreciated aesthetic. The wave of Japonism which seized France at the end of the century thus appreciated these small pieces of furniture blackened in imitation of lacquer, the bone veneers in the shape of flowers and birds.
