From cabaret dancers and the Ballets Russes to acts inspired by Oriental or Indian dance, there was no shortage of models; these influences led the Romanian artist to create the figure of the &#8220;hoop dancer&#8221;\u2014a woman with a supple, scantily clad body, posed with a hoop. The work was an immediate success, perfectly capturing the essence of the Art Deco aesthetic: serpentine lines, fine materials, a fusion of the exotic and the classical\u2014all brought together in a single piece. Our bronze statuette stands as a worthy successor to this quintessential 1920s style. Louis Sosson, an expert in chryselephantine sculpture, here explores the medium of bronze. His hoop dancer\u2014adorned only with a diadem and a bracelet\u2014rises gracefully from a marble base. She is captured in an elegant, poised movement, ready to spring forward, as suggested by the tension of a graceful *contrapposto*.
