This minor Belgian master had a distinguished career, and his works are still appreciated today. Trained at the Academies of Mons (1915-1916) and Brussels, he worked in the studios of Jean Delville and Constant Montald. Once established as a painter, he became a professor at the Saint-Gilles Academy in 1925, eventually serving as its director between 1950 and 1960. <\/p>\n

His gentle and intimate style flourished in landscapes, portraits, nudes, and flowers, which were his preferred subjects. Here, a bouquet of lilies in a blue vase takes center stage, while beside it, a small bouquet of yellow flowers\u2014perhaps chrysanthemums\u2014is displayed in a neo-Gothic vase, in the same style as the small crown-shaped bottle in the foreground on the left. The painting, in very good condition, is signed G. Jessen in the lower right corner. <\/p>\n
